Learn how to apply a gradient to the canvas or to objects created with the Shape, Callout, and Fill tools.
Apply a gradient to the canvas to give your image a more colorful, eye-popping background. Or use a gradient fill in objects created with the Shape, Callout, and Fill tools.
1. Open the Color Picker
For Canvas Color
Control+click the Editor workspace (the area surrounding the canvas) and select the Change Canvas Color option.
Click the Canvas Color preview.
For the Shape, Callout, or Fill Tool
In the Snagit Editor toolbar, select the Shape, Callout, or Fill tool.
In the Tool Properties panel, click the Fill dropdown.
2. Create a Gradient
In the color picker, select Gradient Color Fill from the dropdown.
Click to select one end of the gradient color bar.
Complete one of the following to select the first color for the gradient:
Click to select a preset color. Note: Preset colors are determined by the theme that is currently selected. See Snagit Themes.
Click to select a color from the palette.
Enter a HEX or RGB value into the field.
Click the Eyedropper button and then click to select a color from anywhere on the screen.
Click to select the other end of the gradient color bar.
Repeat step 3 to select the second color for the gradient.
Click to select a gradient style:
Linear: The color transitions from one side or corner to another. To set the direction of the gradient, enter an angle value in degrees, click the dial, or drag the dial.
Radial: The color transitions from the center of the image outward.
To close the color picker, click the preview above the color picker.
To apply the gradient:
Canvas Color: Click Apply.
Shape, Callout, or Fill: With the gradient selected in the Fill property, use the tool. See Shape Tool, Callout Tool, or Fill Tool.
3. Save a Gradient for Future Use
Save a gradient fill for the Shape, Callout, or Fill tool as a Quick Style to easily use again.
As you create a gradient, a temporary Quick Style appears below the existing styles. Click the icon to save the new Quick Style.
