There are several ways to use Camtasia videos in your LMS. Exporting a SCORM package from Camtasia and uploading the package into your LMS is the most comprehensive option, but there are simpler ways as well, each offering convenience and flexibility.

Export and Upload a SCORM Package

A SCORM package is an all-in-one zipped file that includes your video file, the TechSmith Smart Player, closed captions, table of contents, and in-video quizzes. SCORM packages can even report student performance metrics directly to your LMS gradebook.

Each LMS accepts SCORM packages a little differently, so check with your LMS administrator to learn how and where to upload SCORM packages in your particular LMS.

To export a SCORM package from Camtasia Windows:

  1. Select Export > Local File.
  2. Select Advanced Settings > Preset > Basic MP4 with Smart Player.

  4. Click SCORM Options
  5. In the SCORM Options dialog, set the values for the following options:
    • Passing Score: Set the percentage of quiz questions the student is required to answer correctly in pass/fail scenarios. This option is only available if the video includes quiz questions.
    • Viewing Percentage Required: Set the percentage of the video the student is required to watch to receive assignment credit in pass/fail scenarios.

Note: These values only apply when your LMS activity is set to pass/fail. Otherwise, students are awarded points for quiz performance, or points for video completion if the video has no quizzes.
  6. Click OK
  7. Click Export to save your SCORM package to your computer.

To export a SCORM package from Camtasia Mac:

  1. Select Export > Local File.
  2. Select the Export as Web Page, Include Quiz (if applicable), and Include SCORM checkboxes.

  4. Click Export to save your SCORM package to your computer.

A video link or a video embedded via HTML are convenient options when watching the Camtasia video in the LMS is only a part of the course assignment, not the entire experience.

Video hosting sites like Screencast or YouTube provide a direct link (or video embed code) that can be used in most LMS content editors.

For your consideration:

  • Linked or embedded videos are not stored in your LMS, and are dependent on availability of the hosting service.
  • Linked or embedded videos will not report student performance to the LMS gradebook.
  • In-video quizzes and tables of contents are supported on Screencast, but not supported on YouTube.

See Sharing & Privacy on Screencast.

Upload a Video File Directly to Your LMS

Many learning management systems allow the direct upload of MP4 files. Videos added this way will play back in the student’s web browser using the default browser video player, or a media player embedded in the LMS.

For your consideration:

  • Direct video uploads are stored in your LMS, and may be subject to personal file storage limits.
  • Direct uploads will not report student performance to the LMS gradebook.
  • Direct uploads will not support closed captions. Open (burned in) captions may be preferred. See Add Closed Captions to a Video.
  • Direct uploads will not support in-video quizzes or tables of contents added in Camtasia.
