Learn About Standalone Projects
Keep your Camtasia project files organized with standalone project folders.
About Camtasia Projects
The Camtasia Project file format (.tscproj) allows you to quickly save and share your video project files.
- Share a Camtasia standalone project to build and collaborate on a video with others.
- Share a Camtasia standalone project to work on a video across computers, such as between work and personal computers.
The standalone project includes all media and assets used in the video project. When you save a new Camtasia project, the Create standalone project option is selected by default.
Save a Project
- Select File (Windows) or Camtasia 2022 (Mac) > Save As.
- The Save As dialog appears. Enter a project name and choose a file location.
- Make sure the Create standalone project option is enabled. This options includes all media and assets used in the video in the project file.
- Click Save.
Share a Project
Create a zip file to back up or share your project. Zip files contain the Camtasia Project file (.tscproj), content in the Media Bin, and enhancements added to the project.
Note: To export all Camtasia resources, including asset libraries, presets, themes, and templates, see Package and Share Camtasia Resources.
Share a Project to the Same Platform
- In Camtasia Editor:
- Windows: Select File > Export > Zipped Project.
- Mac: Select File > Save As.
- Enter the project name and choose a file destination.
- Click Save.
Camtasia saves a zipped project file to your computer.
Share a Project to Another Platform
- In Camtasia Editor, select File > Export > Project for Windows/Mac.
- If you receive a warning about incompatibility or partially supported media in the project, click Continue to export the project.
- Enter the project name and choose a file destination.
- Click OK.

Open a Project
Import a Project on the Same Platform
- Select File > Import > Zipped Project.
- Browse to the location of the zipped file.
- Windows: Click Import.
- Mac: Click Open.
- A save dialog appears. Click Save to import the project including all media and assets to the selected location.
Camtasia opens the project.
Import a Project on Another Platform
- In Camtasia Editor, select File > Import > Zipped Project.
- If you receive a warning about incompatible or partially compatible media in the project, click Continue to open the project.
Incompatible media displays as a placeholder on the timeline. If you open the project on the original platform, the media is visible.

Incompatible Media and Effects
The Camtasia Project file format (.tscproj) is cross-platform compatible. However, not all media and effects are supported across platforms.
